Driving Towards A Collaborative Working Environment The AA
The AA is Europe’s largest motoring organisation with over 15 million members. As a result of its separation from parent company Centrica plc in 2004, the company required its own enterprise-wide intranet portal solution for its office-based users. Company Net was commissioned to migrate The AA’s portal from the Centrica Plumtree solution to its own fully integrated Microsoft solution.
Utilising Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003, the new AA portal provides a framework for building collaborative websites that makes it possible to share information and documents across teams and departments easily and reliably. The integration of Microsoft Content Management Server with the portal also meets the additional web author and publishing workflow requirements of the AA.
The project dealt with the migration of portal content, document libraries, team web sites and business data from Plumtree to SharePoint Portal Server. In addition to the portal itself, four critical line of business applications were redeveloped and migrated to the new environment.
Company Net was engaged in November 2004, and successfully completed the migration in July 2005, thereby meeting a time critical dependency for the AA to have their own system in live use within a year of separating from Centrica.
The new portal, codenamed AAnnette, is a secure and scalable enterprise portal which integrates with the AA’s wider technology strategy, utilising the Microsoft platform.
Following the project's successful delivery, Company Net is continuing to develop its relationship with the AA, providing on-going system support, and also providing technology consultancy to enable future development of the portal, leveraging the AA’s existing investment and reducing the total cost of ownership.
